Sports Massage & Remedial Soft Tissue Therapy
Whether you’re training for competition, recovering from an injury or simply want to move more comfortably, our sports massage and remedial soft tissue treatments are designed to support your body’s recovery and resilience.
At Feel Better Bristol, Zoe and Becki are both Level 5 Sports & Remedial Massage Therapists with additional training in Myofascial Release (MFR). We combine hands-on treatment with movement assessment, rehabilitation advice and education to help you understand your symptoms and return to the activities you enjoy.
Our approach is evidence-informed, person-centred and tailored to your goals—whether you’re an elite athlete, an active weekend walker or someone recovering from everyday strains.
Assessment-Led Treatment
Your initial appointment lasts 70 minutes and includes a thorough assessment of your symptoms, movement patterns and relevant medical history. We may also assess posture, strength, mobility and functional movement to identify factors that could be contributing to your pain or injury.
If you’re simply looking to ease muscular tension or support recovery between training sessions, 45 and 60-minute sports massage appointments are also available without the full assessment.
How We Treat
No two injuries are the same, so treatment is always individualised. Depending on your needs, your therapist may use a combination of:
- Sports massage
- Deep tissue massage
- Myofascial Release (MFR)
- Soft tissue mobilisation
- Active and passive stretching
- Medical acupuncture (where appropriate)
- Dry cupping
- Kinesiology taping
- Individualised rehabilitation exercises
- Advice on activity modification and self-management
Hands-on treatment is often most effective when combined with movement, strengthening and appropriate loading. We’ll work with you to develop a plan that supports your recovery beyond the treatment room.
Scar Therapy for Recovery
Zoe and Becki are Advanced Scar Therapists with experience supporting clients following surgery.
As scars heal, they can sometimes become sensitive, uncomfortable or contribute to reduced movement in the surrounding tissues. Once your surgeon or healthcare team has confirmed healing is appropriate—often from around eight weeks after surgery, although this varies—scar therapy may help improve comfort, mobility and confidence in movement. We regularly support clients following procedures including:
- Ligament and tendon repairs
- Joint replacements
- Sports injury surgery
- Caesarean birth
- Hysterectomy
- Other abdominal and orthopaedic procedures
Every scar and every person heals differently, so treatment is always adapted to your stage of recovery.
Myofascial Release (MFR) for Sport & Movement
Fascia is the connective tissue that surrounds and links muscles, tendons, nerves and other structures throughout the body. Rather than viewing fascia as a tissue that simply becomes “stuck”, current research suggests it plays an important role in movement, force transmission, sensation and communication within the body.
Myofascial Release uses slow, sustained hands-on techniques to engage with these tissues while also providing calming sensory input to the nervous system. Many people describe feeling less restricted, moving more freely and experiencing reduced discomfort following treatment.
For active people and athletes, MFR may help:
- Reduce feelings of stiffness
- Improve movement confidence
- Support recovery between training sessions
- Manage persistent aches and pains
- Complement rehabilitation following injury
- Improve body awareness and movement quality
Because the techniques are generally gentle and adaptable, they can often be incorporated into training schedules without leaving tissues feeling excessively sore.
Supporting Performance
Recovery is an essential part of performance.
While no manual therapy can guarantee improved athletic performance, reducing pain, restoring comfortable movement and improving confidence in your body may help you train more consistently and perform at your best.
At Feel Better Bristol, we see sports massage and myofascial release as part of a wider rehabilitation approach that includes education, movement, strength, recovery and self-management. Our aim isn’t simply to treat today’s symptoms, but to help you build a body that feels capable, resilient and ready for whatever challenges you choose to take on.
