Massage Therapy

Therapeutic Massage

Touch has been used to support health and wellbeing across cultures for thousands of years. Today, massage therapy is widely used alongside conventional healthcare to help manage pain, reduce stress, support recovery and encourage relaxation. At Feel Better Bristol, we believe massage therapy is about more than muscles. It is an opportunity to slow down, reconnect with your body and support the systems that influence how you feel every day.

We combine hands-on skills with an understanding of anatomy, fascia, movement and current pain science. Every treatment is tailored to the individual, recognising that no two bodies—or experiences—are the same.

A Whole-Person Approach

Pain and tension are rarely just about one tight muscle.

Stress, previous injuries, surgery, repetitive movement, lifestyle, breathing patterns and the nervous system can all influence how our bodies feel and move. Massage provides meaningful sensory input that may help calm an overprotective nervous system, reduce muscle guarding, improve body awareness and encourage more comfortable movement.

We work collaboratively with you throughout your treatment, adapting pressure, pace and techniques to your preferences and your body’s responses on the day. Whether you enjoy gentle, calming touch or deeper pressure, treatment should always feel supportive rather than something to endure.

What Can Massage Help With?

Research suggests massage may help improve comfort, movement and wellbeing for many people. It may be beneficial for:

  • Stress and burnout
  • Anxiety and tension
  • Persistent muscle tightness
  • Neck and shoulder pain
  • Back pain
  • Headaches associated with muscle tension
  • Sports recovery and overuse injuries
  • Joint stiffness
  • Fibromyalgia and persistent pain conditions
  • Fatigue associated with chronic tension
  • Sciatica and some nerve-related symptoms
  • Pregnancy and postnatal discomfort (where appropriate)
  • General relaxation and wellbeing

While massage cannot cure medical conditions, it can form an important part of a broader approach to managing symptoms and supporting overall health and wellbeing.

What to Expect

Your appointment starts with a conversation about your health, lifestyle and symptoms. This helps us understand what has brought you to the clinic and how we can tailor your treatment to your goals. Throughout your treatment, your therapist will check in with you regularly and adjust techniques or pressure according to your comfort. Consent and communication are central to every appointment – you are always in control of your treatment.

Following your massage, you’ll have time to get dressed in privacy before checking in how you’re feeling. Where appropriate, we’ll offer personalised self-care advice, movement suggestions and recommendations for ongoing treatment.

Clothed or Oil Massage?

Depending on your preferences and the type of treatment, massage can be performed using oils on exposed skin or through light clothing.

Your therapist will explain the options beforehand so you can choose what feels most comfortable. Your privacy and dignity will always be respected, and appropriate draping will be used throughout your appointment.

Medical Conditions

Our therapists have experience supporting clients living with a wide range of health conditions, including persistent pain, neurological conditions, post-surgical recovery and cancer rehabilitation.

Every treatment is adapted to your needs and medical history. In some circumstances, we may recommend seeking advice from your GP or other healthcare professional before treatment to ensure massage is appropriate and safe for you.

If you’re unsure whether massage is suitable, please get in touch – we’re always happy to chat to you about your circumstances before you book.
