Scar Therapy

Scar Tissue is Less Functional

Scar therapy can be beneficial after surgery, or any physical trauma that has resulted in scar tissue. Radiotherapy also causes scar tissue. Scar tissue can be external, but also internal, including adhesions where tissues stick together under the skin. Scar tissue is fibrotic and less mobile. . Scar therapy and massage can also help relieve discomfort from scars that may appear to have healed, yet still cause issues for example pain, numbness, sensitivity, or restricted movement.

How May Scar Therapy Help?

We specialise in gentle, non-invasive scar massage and fascial release to treat scar tissue, fibrosis and adhesions. Specialist scar massage can help remodel the tissue that forms after surgery or injury, reducing scar tissue buildup and potentially improving the scar’s appearance. It’s particularly effective for new scars (less than two years old), but can still positively affect older scars, as our bodies continuously renew and respond to therapy.

What Happens During A Treatment?

We are able to work with new scars around 8 weeks post-surgery. During your initial consultation, we will assess areas of tightness surrounding the scar, as well as any underlying fascia, muscles, or fibrotic tissue. Our treatments are designed to be comfortable and should not cause significant pain, even as we work into deeper layers of tissues to stimulate change to scar tissue. Many clients report their scars feeling softer, looser, and smoother after treatment.

We’ll also provide self care advice and recommend products for home care to help you get the best results. Depending on the scar, initial treatments may range from 2 to 6 sessions, with noticeable permanent improvements usually seen.

Will My Scar Vanish?

No, we cannot make the scar tissue vanish. Early treatment normally produces the best results in cosmetic improvement. However we have seen very positive results with older scars too.

Keloid scars can be more resistant and may take longer to respond, while hypertrophic scars also benefit from treatment but may require consistent therapy over time.
