Scar Tissue is Less Functional
Scar therapy can be highly beneficial following surgery, physical trauma, or radiotherapy – all of which can lead to the formation of scar tissue. Scars may be visible on the surface or hidden deeper within the body, forming internal adhesions where tissues stick together. Scar tissue is fibrotic, less elastic, and can limit mobility. Even scars that appear healed on the outside can still cause discomfort, including pain, numbness, sensitivity, or restricted movement.
How May Scar Therapy Help?
We specialise in gentle, non-invasive scar massage and fascial release to treat scar tissue, fibrosis, and adhesions.
This targeted approach can help remodel the tissue formed after surgery or injury, reduce excessive scar tissue buildup, and may also improve the appearance of the scar. Scar therapy is especially effective for newer scars (less than two years old), but older scars can still respond positively, as the body continues to adapt, heal, and regenerate over time.
What can Scar Therapy assist with?
Scar therapy may help with the following difficulties:
- Puckering, thick, raised or wide scars
- Pain and sensitivity
- Adhesions internal
- Limited movement, tightness or stiffness
- Internal scar tissue after mastectomy, lumpectomy or reconstruction
- Cording or limited arm movement
- Capsular contracture (tightness following implant reconstruction)
What Happens During A Treatment?
We can begin working with new scars from around 8 weeks post-surgery, once the skin has fully healed.
At your initial consultation, we’ll assess areas of tension around the scar, including any tightness in the underlying fascia, muscles, or fibrotic tissue. Our treatments are designed to be gentle and comfortable, even when working into deeper layers to encourage lasting change in the scar tissue. Many clients report their scars feeling softer, smoother, and more mobile after treatment.
We’ll also give you personalised self-care advice and recommend products to support your healing at home. Depending on the scar, an initial course of 2 to 6 sessions is often recommended, with noticeable and lasting improvements typically seen.
Will My Scar Vanish?
While we can’t make scar tissue disappear completely, early treatment often leads to the most noticeable cosmetic improvements. That said, we’ve also seen excellent results with older scars—tissue continues to respond and change, even years after an injury or surgery.
Keloid scars tend to be more resistant and may take longer to respond, while hypertrophic scars can improve with treatment but often require regular, consistent therapy over time.
