How could a massage help me?
The therapeutic effects of touch have been recognised for centuries. Massage is promoted alongside standard healthcare for a wide range of conditions, due to a mounting body of evidence of its benefits.
As well as potentially helping chronic conditions, massage is enjoyable because it involves soothing touch and stimulates nerve endings in the skin, bringing feelings of well being and self awareness to the body. As a result it may reduce pain and anxiety and help to manage work related stress.
A deep massage encourages relaxation of tight muscles and tissues. Massage may stimulate the circulation and our lymphatic system to remove waste in the body and support a healthy immune system. In addition, this may help joint mobility.
Regular massage may play a vital role in injury management and prevention by keeping muscles and joints healthy. We are learning more all the time about fascia (a layer of tissue surrounding all muscles and organs) and the ability of ‘fascial release’ to help long standing injuries.
Massage may help …
- Anxiety and depression
- Chronic pain
- Back pain and headaches
- Arthritis and joint conditions
- Fibromyalgia / ME / CFS
- Soft tissue sprains and injuries
- Eating disorders
- Digestive disorders
- Sciatica and nerve pain
- Pregnancy and post natal care
Note: massage does not replace standard medical care. If you are having medical treatment, please ask your Doctor if it is safe to receive massage.
What can I expect from my appointment?
Your session will be exactly what YOU want. Before your massage we talk about your needs or difficulties you have and create a plan together. Everything is treated in confidence and all recorded information is held securely.
Are the sessions clothed or with oil?
You can choose the type of massage you prefer – clothed or with oil. If we are using oil, I will respect your privacy and give you time to remove as much clothing as you feel comfortable with and get settled. I only uncover the parts of the body being worked on and use blankets to cover you up.
What happens after a treatment?
You will be given a few minutes to come back down to earth and refresh in privacy. It is then useful to compare how you felt before and after the session. Self care advice will be given to help you maximise the benefits of massage therapy at home. If you need help to manage a chronic issue, we can discuss a programme of treatments.
I have a specific medical condition, can I still have massage?
I have significant experience with varying medical conditions. The treatment is tailored to your individual limits. In some conditions, massage may not be advisable and you will need to check with your GP first.
